true stories with a burst of flavor
Want the rest of the Green Card story?

Here’s the thing: I’ve been struggling with how to include the Green Card story as part of the one.blue.berry project without taking away from the basic concept, which is to present readers’ stories as well as my own.
I never meant for this site to be solely about my stuff, but you keep asking for more – what a delicious dilemma for a writer!
Well, I think I’ve found a solution.
I’m working on a book that tells the whole story of how this ‘friend’ of mine (ahem) married a gorgeous Greek for his green card, and what happened after the honeymoon (and lots happened!) I’d like to share it with you as I write it, in your inbox every week.
The last time I waited this eagerly for the next installment of a story was when I was waiting for the next Harry Potter book.
~ Allison Culley
You’ll not only find out what happened, but you’ll be able to watch as I shape the story. I’ll share my journal notes too, where I write about the decisions that go into writing a book-length memoir novel, and share the resources that are helping me get there. And when it’s all done, you will receive a digital copy of the final version, all nice and pretty.
It hit me a week or two ago that what I’m writing is a romance novel. Frankly, I was horrified. I’m a bit of a snob, it’s true. I had dreams of literary fame, a screenplay, being interviewed on the Today Show. Romance? That’s soft porn!
I tweeted my horror to writing coach Alison Gresik, and she replied that there’s nothing wrong with that – romance novels are very popular.
Huh.
So that’s what I’m writing, folks – a modern, nonfiction romance novel. Starring a spunky waitress and a hot Greek, who looked exactly like a more closely shaved version of the guy up there on the right, btw, and who turned my ‘friend’s’ world upside down. In a good way. Sort of. And then not so much. And then good again, but not how I she expected.
I won’t lie – this is really scary for me.
I started writing this story as it was happening – it was that obviously good – but I got stuck because I didn’t know the ending. Now I know the end, but I’m afraid I’ll get stuck again. (I’m afraid to write about sex, for instance, but I’ll face my fear and do it – for you. Because I know that’s what you want to read, right? Come on, admit it.)
Knowing you’re impatiently waiting for the next installment will give me the push I need to finish this book at last. You’ll get a chapter a week for however many chapters it takes. (Update: I’m up to Chapter 19 now, and about a 3/4ths of the way through.)
Want to find out what happens next? Click the link below and you’ll get Chapter 5 right away. (Read the first four chapters.) Following chapters will come at least once a week.

Love and hugs,

p.s. If I do get stuck for whatever reason and can’t finish, I’ll refund your money. Now, THAT’S incentive to finish!

Awesome, Carol, thanks!
Hey, writing in instalments is a great idea. I mean, it suited Charles Dickens rather well…
Can’t wait.
Exactly. If it’s good enough for Dickens, it’s good enough for me!
OOOOH! How long do I have to get payment to you?
No fake deadlines here, but the sooner you sign up, the sooner you find out what happened, lol.

Great idea, LaVonne!
Will be joining in just as soon as I can,
and will spread some Robin love in the meantime.
And to answer your Q, no, actually, I don’t.
:>
I tend to skip those parts.
But I’m probably a minority in this.
